Local Beat Group Win Audition Prize
The 4XXXX'sThe 4XXXX's, Tamworth's popular beat group was successful on Saturday in winning the all-Midland beat contest held at Wellington.

The contest was judged by the recording manager of Galaxy Enterprises Ltd, who handle the the "Small Faces" and the "Nashville Teens." First prize was £10 and an audition with a top recording company.

Among the fourteen groups taking part were the "Peasant Sect" who recently won an audition on Saturday Club and "The Vigilantes" winners of the Joseph Sankey Beat Contest and present holders of the Fred Hibbard Beat Trophy.

Members of the local group are Tony Cole (rhythm guitar), from Leyfields; Ian Parson (drummer), Gillway; Terry Young (lead guitar), Two Gates; Chris Pallett (bass guitar), Dosthill; and "Kip" Wood (singer) from Offa Street,The Leys.
