200 hear “Scottie” at contemporary music club
More than 200 people were at Tamworth’s Music Club on Wednesday evening to see three artistes perform – “Scottie”, Pete Clement and Colin Scott, whose record was described by Tony Blackburn as the “Pick of the week” recently.

“Scottie” has a particularly big following in the Midlands and his fans will travel many miles to see him.

He sings traditional and satirical folk songs, Beatles numbers, Rolling Stones, Buddy Holly, The Everly Brothers and provides plenty of comedy.

There were around 200 people present and the attendance is getting bigger each week.

Forthcoming performers are Blue Jade Folk group and Brian Williamson in a “country meets folk night” on July 22.

Gerry Lochran appears on the 29th, The Icons on August 5, Jasper Carrot on August 19.

Colin Scott will be making a return appearance as will the “New Modern Idiot Grunt Band” who appeared don July 1.

One of the most popular folk groups in Britain at present is “Magna Carta” who will appear in September as will “Matthews Southern Comfort”.

Floor singers are always welcome – this always makes an unexpected change to the evening.

Studded leather jacket was “offensive weapon”
An incident involving the stabbing of a youth at a Tamworth dance led to the appearance in Tamworth Magistrates Court on Tuesday of a 20-year-old Lichfield man.

On Sunday, April 26, a gang of Lichfield youths arrived at Tamworth’s Mercian Community Centre for a teenage dance. During the evening a boy was stabbed and the police searched a considerable number of people including the defendant, stores assistant, John Victor Burton of 24, Broomcovert Road, Swinfen Hall, Lichfield.

Burton was facing a charge of possessing an offensive weapon – the studded leather jacket he was wearing at the time of the dance.

Burton admitted the offence and was fined £30 with a £5 advocates fee.

Defending, Mr. John Heslop said “You may think this is something of a league table.

We have one boy stabbing another, one carrying a studded belt and chain. Then further down the scale there are others with razors, knives and belts. Burton did not look for trouble in fact he went to see his girlfriend.”

Kingsbury lyric writer hopes to write a musicalTamworth Herald – 25/09/70
Kingsbury lyric writer hopes to write a musical
The first step towards what he hopes will be a successful career in the pop music world has been taken by an 18-year-old Kingsbury man.

It was a great day for Alan Middleton of 9, Kingsway, Kingsbury, when he heard that one of his lyrics had been accepted by a leading Midlands record company.

He has now been given a two-year contract and Alan now hopes to have several of the 30 lyrics he has written accepted by the company.

“It sometimes only takes me about 20 minutes to write a good lyric, but other days it takes a lot longer”, said Alan.

But Alan, who works for Tamworth Diecasters, has one big ambition – “I hope one day to write a musical”, he says.
